Hi Guys,
Today is a workday in photography. I will also be demonstrating how to compose the photo book. Here is a list of the assignments and number of photographs that need to be included.
1. PORTRAIT OF A PLACE / shot in style of Walker Evans or William Eggleston / 5 photos out of 36 / must be in color
2. PORTRAIT OF PERSON AND POSSESSIONS / shot in style of Jason Travis / 2 photos (one of person and one of possessions) / color
3. DIRECT LOOK / shot in style of Yo Imae (dark background, direct look of subject, no smile) / 1 photo / black and white
4. PERSON BEFORE AND AFTER / shot in style of Rineke Dijkstra (subject before and after something on a background that is related but simple...think planes of color) / 2 photos / color
5. PORTRAIT OF SOMEONE AT WORK / shot in style of Lewis Hine (subject and machine look to be one, someone you don't know working) / 1 photo / black and white
6. PERSONALITY PORTRAIT / shot in style of Richard Avedon (no smile, direct stare, white background and optional black border like Avedon) / 1 photo / black and white
7. STORY / DIGNITY PORTRAIT / shot in the style of Diane Arbus (shoot a person you don't know that has character and a story to tell...find out their story and include in photo to give dignity) / 1 photo / black and white or color
8. STAGE / shot in the style of Eugene Atget (look for a stage and actors coming in and out) / 1 photo / black and white or color
9. DECISIVE MOMENT HUNTING / shot in the style of Henri Cartier Bresson (hunt for the decisive moment...set up shot in an interesting composition and wait - look for layers of geometry) / 1 photo / black and white
10. PEOPLE AT PLAY OR MOTION / shot in style of Henri Cartier Bresson / 1 photo / black and white
11. BUSY AND QUIET / shot in the style of George Tice (shoot a place that is busy and shoot again while quiet) / 2 photos / black and white
12. PERSPECTIVES OF AN OBJECT / shot in the style of Edward Wesson (shoot 10 perspectives of an object) / 5 photos / black and white
Please have these printed out and bound into a book for your final. You will also need a digital copy of these images. Have them on a stick in a folder labeled with your name. These will be archived for the art department and you if you ever need them.
