Don't forget critique is on Monday. You will need a summary describing your subject and the reasons why you shot them for the assignment. You need to have one photo framed and under glass. The other photo from the previous assignment needs to be in your folder with the last assignment. You will need to have your folder organized in this order...

1. Project #2 Summary
2. Negatives
3. Contact Sheet
4. Final Print (best print should be under glass)

Be ready to talk about these on Monday and get introduced to the next assignment.

Wednesday, October 26th

If you guys could be keeping an eye on the thermostat while you work. If it get's too hot turn on the air or too cold turn on the heat. It's odd temps these days and we are trying to save this developer issues we are having by keeping an eye on things. If you are last man out make sure to turn things off and make sure that the temp is good to go while you are gone. Wednesday will be a work day in class. Also bring your cameras for we will be talking about more photographers to look at.

PHOTO DIARY: Don't forget you have two assignments (one in class photo diary) Yo Imae - subject standing on dark background, not smiling just looking at the camera. If you didn't get this in class try shooting this again. Also you need to shoot in the style of Rineke Dijkstra. Please make your background abstract planes of color similar to the vistas of the sea side or the solider shots. Shoot your subject in a moment before something happens and after.

Check out this interview and work for inspiration...

PHOTO DIARY: Please take a photograph of someone you don't know working. Adventure to places you have never been on campus. (please don't just shoot your roomie on this one...find someone doing some physical labor). Make this individual look like they are important to making the machine operate just like Lewis Hine's Powerhouse Mechanic. This photo in your diary will be black and white.

Here's some examples of Lewis Hine's work for reference. http://www.multimedialibrary.com/framesml/IM12/IM12page2.asp

Your assignment of the portrait project will be due next Wednesday. Please have your folder updated and your new portrait hung in the hallway for Wednesday, Oct. 26th class. Best one in the frame, the other in the folder. Don't forget to write a summary. Describe in detail why you took this photograph - why was this subject was interesting and how that informed your shots. There should be new developer in both the film and print lab - so we should be good to go for next week. See you on Monday!

Also take a look at the stories that they write about their subject...this is a little glimpse of how your summaries should show us the interesting story that these people have to tell.

PHOTO DIARY ASSIGNMENT: Shoot a person with an interesting face. Someone that will stare the camera down. Do not get them smiling. Have them set up with standard lighting and a white background (white wall). Convert the final image for this diary entry into a black and white photo. If you are familiar with photoshop and would like to add a black border similar to Richard's photographs that would be great...but only if you are familiar with photoshop.
